Data are stored in GSM; selecting GSE rotates them in your browser using per-minute IGRF rotation angles.

Earth orbital motion
The underlying dataset follows the community convention (shared with CDAWeb and OMNI) in which Earth's orbital motion is removed from all velocities: Uy,GSE averages ~0 rather than the ~+29.78 km/s of Earth's true rest frame. By default MIDL restores it: the seasonally exact tangential orbital velocity is added along +yGSE, rotated into the selected coordinate system, giving the solar wind as seen from Earth (the correct input for Earth-centered models such as SWMF). Untick the box for convention-frame velocities; files state the choice as Earth orbital motion included or Earth orbital motion EXCLUDED; see details.
Propagation target

The propagated solar wind solution is only valid outside the bow shock. The amber line marks the selected target.
