To aid our efforts, we are utilizing a multidisciplinary knowledge network, or collaboratory, to enable all members of the project to interact effectively on a daily basis. At our disposal is the very large and ongoing collaboratory research effort at the School of Information at the University of Michigan.

The School of Information has undertaken several collaboratory testbed projects to support distributed activities in the medical, commercial and scientific communities. This experience is being developed in combinations of generic and tailored electronic collaboration tools which are available to us. The collaboratory structure implemented here helps form the foundation that supports the day-to-day interactions of the distributed KDI team members, including science and engineering activities, management activities, weekly team meetings and educational outreach activities.
